Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro was somewhat flabbergasted after his side’s 1-0 defeat to Cape Town City on Wednesday evening.
The Buccaneers missed out on moving into first place on the log, with Darwin Gonzalez scoring the only goal of the night.
The deflected shot came just four minutes after Patrick Maswanganyi missed a spot-kick to put the visitors in front.
After the match, Riveiro was somewhat lost for words to explain how his team lost on the day.
“I cannot do an analysis here right now,” he told SuperSport TV.
“It’s actually quite difficult to explain the final result, I think the difference between both teams was too big this time.
“With all respect for the game of Cape Town City, it’s difficult to explain that we lost this game the way we did it.
“But this is football, they managed to put one ball in the net, we didn’t but a very complete performance, we did everything to win the match, not much that you can do.
“So, to the next one.”
When asked to explain the four minutes between Maswanganyi’s penalty hitting the post and Gonzalez scoring the opener, Riveiro cited bad luck.
“It’s just pure bad luck in this case, did you see the way they score?”
“It’s something not normal. Again, like I said, we were Pirates tonight, we played the football that we played before.
“There were other game that we didn’t play at the level we played tonight where we got the result, but today we didn’t make it.
“Now we have to put our name onto the next one, this one is gone.”
