Mamelodi Sundowns forward Arthur Sales has called on his teammates to put on a statement performance for their supporters when the Brazilians host Richards Bay in a sold-out Umhlathuze Sports Complex on Sunday.
Sundowns head into the match off the back of a disappointing draw, and while Sales acknowledged the frustration that came with dropping points, the Brazilian is determined to channel that disappointment into motivation.
“Of course you will feel bad things after the draw, but I think it’s also a good step for us to improve, so with this point, it will push us to do better,” Sales said.
With the stadium set to be packed to capacity, Sales made clear that the occasion carries added weight, and that the squad is acutely aware of the responsibility that they need to get back to winning ways to stamp their authority in the title race with Orlando Pirates.
Masandawana are currently one point behind the Soweto giants – who face Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday – albeit with a game in hand over the leaders.
“I think it’s going to be tough game against Richards Bay to play that side, but we have to show something to our fans, we feel like we need to give a big performance and an answer to our fans,” he said.
“It’s nice to play in the full stadiums, it’s sold out because everyone believes in us, that’s why our fans are coming to the stadium, we need this one, this support, it’s a good answer from our fans, to us, to show belief.
“Also we need to show 100% power in the game and win three points,” Sales concluded ahead of Sunday’s 17h30 kick-off in KwaZulu-Natal.
