Sekhukhune Punish 10-Men Pirates

Sekhukhune United beat 10-men Orlando Pirates and collected their first ever win over the Buccaneers at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The game started very slow, with no side being able to to create clear-cut goalscoring opportunities.

Linda Mntambo almost came back to hunt his former side in the 28th minute but his rocket from outside the box was pushed over the bar by a superb save from Richard Ofori.

Sekhukhune continued to show Pirates little respect, while the Buccaneers struggled to show the same form they brought onto the pitch against Mamelodi Sundowns on the weekend.

After the game went goalless into the break, Ofori was again called into action in the 54th minute to deny Mntambo from inside the box.

Thabiso Monyane was sent of the in the 60th minute after picking up a second yellow for a foul on Vusumuzi Mncube.

Second-half substitute Kermit Erasmus has a chance to give the Buccaneers the lead but his shot from inside the box flew just over the bar.

Deon Hotto had a late chance to score for Pirates but Badra Sangare was once on pints with his save.

When it looked like the two sides would share the spoils, Elias Mokwena gave the home side the lead in the 83rd minute.

Babina Noko made it 2-0 after a howler by Ofori, who lost the ball outside his box, got punished by Mncube.

It was only Sekhukhune’s second win of the campaign and their first ever over Pirates, while Buccaneers collected their third defeat.
