Sekhukhune United have received multiple CVs and have short-listed four candidates after the unconfirmed exit of Brandon Truter.
‘Brakkies’ was last seen on the bench of Babina Noko in the Carling Knockout Cup quarter-final clash with TS Galaxy, when they lost 4-2 on penalties.
This publication has learnt that the former Moroka Swallows head coach has parted ways with United but there are still some a few things that need to be ironed out, which is why Sekhukhune haven’t made an announcement yet.
He was not on the bench when Babina Noko lost to Orlando Pirates 1-0 at Orlando Stadium last week, when assistant coach McDonald Makhubedu was in charge. Makhubedu also led the team into the clash against SuperSport United, which they won 1-0.
It is understood that Sekhukhune will now look to settle on their new coach during the current international break.
There are four main contenders coming out of the Babina Noko camp, and former Polokwane City coach Lehlohonolo Seema, who confirmed to iDiski Times that he has resigned from Rise and Shine, is the leading candidate on the list.
The other candidates are former Kaizer Chiefs, Maritzburg United and Moroka Swallows coach Ernst Midderndorp, Baroka head coach Dan Malesela and French tactician Julien Chevalier, who is currently with ASEC Mimosas of Ivory Coast.
Seema’s resignation at Polokwane City came as a surprise, with the side sitting sixth on the table after 12 matches, having won four, drawn five and lost three.
Malesela, meanwhile, has been doing fantastically well at Baroka, having won six out of the last seven matches, which saw them climb into fourth on the Motsepe Foundation Championship log. But, the issue for Malesela is that he can’t sit on the bench during CAF matches because he doesn’t have the necessary licence.
Meanwhile, Midderndorp is free to join the club after leaving Tanzanian side Siginda Fountains two months ago. Chevalier recently led Mimosas into a CAF Champions’ League group stages, so it remains to be seen whether he’d be keen on the switch to South Africa.
Decision regarding the appointment of the new coach that will lead the side is expected to be made later this week, with Seema being the frontrunner fo now.
