Sibisi On Chiefs Test For Top Of The Table Chance In Soweto Derby

Orlando Pirates captain Nkosinathi Sibisi says the form of both teams doesn’t change how one approaches the Soweto Derby but knows top of the table is possible with a win over Kaizer Chiefs.

Chiefs host Pirates this weekend at FNB Stadium, with both sides having suffered defeats in their last league outings coming into this game; Amakhosi to Stellenbosch and Pirates to Mamelodi Sundowns at the same venue.

However, Pirates could move up back to the summit, ahead of Sundowns with a win, while Chiefs could cut down the gap at the top of the table to five points.

“The Derby is the Derby, whether you’re in eighth or 16th position, it doesn’t really matter, it’s a game you have to win, there’s bragging rights up for grabs, it’s a game of consequence this time around,” Sibisi said.

“We know if we win, we go top of the table again, so for us it’s just taking it every game as it comes. Every team has improved, not only [Chiefs], if you go through the table, there’s improvement everywhere.

“It’s not about them [in the title race] there’s everyone else, so we need to just go into the game with a positive mindset, to say we can take this game.”

The two sides meet at the Calabash, in a fixture that was sold out in less than 12 hours after going out on sale – at 15h30 on Saturday afternoon.
