Former Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa has opened up on media reports linking him with a move to arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs.
The 29-year-old recently parted ways with Pirates after spending the last six months of the last season on loan at Stellenbosch FC.
The ‘Sniper’ had struggled for game-time at Pirates under Abdeslam Ouaddou where he played five league matches and scored one goal before his loan move to the Western Cape.
The loaned proved helpful as Mabasa featured 12 times in the league for the Gavin Hunt-led Stellies where he managed four goals.
During the time he wasn’t playing at his parent club, there were reports suggesting he may cross town and join rivals Amakhosi.
Speaking on Soccerbeat with Lebohang ‘Cheeseboy’ Mokoena, Mabasa said keeping away from distractions is what helps him.
“Like I tell you, I’m a professional first, you know,” said Mabasa.
“I love my job, I care about my job, and I had a job to do at that certain time. So, I wasn’t really bothered by everything that I hear in the media, this and this and this.
“I try to keep such a huge distance between myself and that, you know, just to move away from that, because I don’t want it to affect me at the end of the day.
“Like, I tell you, I have a job to do, and I have to be ready at all times. I’m one player that plays on confidence, you know. If my mind is right, everything is right now. You’ll see, I’ll excel, you know.
“So, I just had to try and keep in my little box, forget about all the noise and everything else that’s happening around.”
