Stellenbosch FC have announced the signing of highly-rated defender Siviwe Nkwali, who joins from Cape Town Spurs.
The 20-year-old arrives after securing a move on a pre-contract when his deal went into his final six months with Spurs, who also suffered relegation from the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
During the final stages of his time at the club he was developed before rising towards the senior set-up, he was frozen out the first team by head coach Ernst Middendorp, but managed to make the Amajita squad for the U20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
He played every game of their triumphant campaign, initialy starting as a right-back, then moving to central defence alongside Tylon Smith after the injury of captain Asekho Tiwani and becoming one of the standout players in the tournament.
“I’m very happy to be here and grateful to Stellenbosch FC for giving me an opportunity to once again showcase my talents,” Nkwali told the club’s official website after securing the no14 shirt.
“Stellenbosch has been a top-three club in the past few seasons, and I hope to help the team continue to compete in the league and push for more silverware.
“I will put in 110% for the team and fight for this badge, and I can’t wait for the season to get started.”
Nkwali has signed a long-term deal with Steve Barker’s side, proving to be another exciting addition to the squad, and likely to challenge Nigerian Enyinnaya Kazie Godswill for a spot in the starting line-up.
