Five DStv Premiership Teams With Most Goals So Far

In this week’s special feature brought to you by DStv, iDiski Times looks at the five teams who have scored the most goals in the league so far.

After all of the teams have played 23 games in the DStv Premiership this season, there have been a whopping 387 goals scored in 184 matches in total so far.

That’s an average of 2.1 goals a game.

Mamelodi Sundowns have scored 11,6% of all of those, with the next-best teams around 7%.

The worst percentage rate belongs to Maritzburg United and Richards Bay, who have scored just 4.4% each.

Here are the five teams who have scored the most so far — Sundowns are first, SuperSport United are second, while Kaizer Chiefs, Stellenbosch and Golden Arrows are tied for third.

1) Mamelodi Sundowns – 45 goals

20 points ahead on the log, Sundowns are also running away with the most goals tally. They have scored 17 more goals than second-placed SuperSport.

Peter Shalulile has scored 11 of those, while Cassius Mailula is not far behind with nine.

Neo Maema has chipped in five times. Haashim Domingo has scored three times while Themba Zwane, Mothobi Mvala, Marcelo Allende and Abubeker Nasir have all netted twice. Seven other players have netted once this campaign.

2) SuperSport United – 28 goals

Despite being second on the list, Gavin Hunt will be disappointed to have only 28 goals in their 23 games.

Bradley Grobler continues to be the club’s go-to-man for goals and has scored nine times this campaign.

Teenager Thapelo Maseko is next, but some way back, with three goals, while five players — Onismor Bhasera, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Grant Margeman, Zakhele Lepasa and Thamsanqa Gabuza — have scored twice. Four other players have one goal each.

3) Kaizer Chiefs – 27 goals

Chiefs haven’t been too bad at scoring goals, but with a goal difference of just one, the problem has been they’ve also conceded a lot.

Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana leads the way with his seven goals, Keagan Dolly has scored four times, while Ashley Du Preez has netted three times.

S’fiso Hlanti, Yusuf Maart, Siyabonga Ngezana and Mduduzi Shabalala have all scored twice this season. Four others have scored once, including new signing Christian Saile.

3) Stellenbosch – 27 goals

It’s been a tricky season for Stellies, who have shown to be one of the more attacking teams in the league. But the problem is they’ve conceded as often they’ve scored, and actually a tad more, with 29 goals against them.

Three players have scored five times for Steve Barker’s team — Junior Mendieta, Devin Titus and Iqraam Rayners, who only re-joined the club two months ago! Sinethemba Mngomezulu has four goals, Antonio Van Wyk has scored twice, while four players, including the late Oshwin Andries, have netted once.

3) Golden Arrows – 27 goals

Similarly, Arrows have scored a good number, but have conceded more! They have a -7 goal difference, after letting in 34 goals.

Both Pule Mmodi and Knox Mutizwa have scored six goals each, while Nduduzo Sibiya has netted four times. Three players have scored twice – Velemseni Ndwandwe, Nqobeko Dlamini and Ryan Moon. Five Arrows’ players have one goal to their name.

Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates, Cape Town City and Royal AM have all scored 26 goals this season.

Monnapule Saleng is Pirates’ biggest contributor with eight goals, City’s top scorer is Khanyiso Mayo with seven, while Ruzaigh Gamildien and Mfundo Thikazi lead the way for Royal AM with five goals each.

Six clubs — Richards Bay, TS Galaxy, Sekhukhune United, Swallows, Maritzburg United and Marumo Gallants — are yet to score 20 goals.

Despite their relatively low team tallies, Etiosa Ighodaro has scored eight goals for Chippa, while Djakaridja Traore has seven goals for TS Galaxy.
