Sundowns Set New PSL Record With Win Over Sekhukhune

Mamelodi Sundowns secured a new Premier Soccer League (PSL) record after their 2-1 win over Sekhukhune United in their DStv Premiership clash at Loftus Versfeld.

Having made a staggering eleven changes from the team who lost 1-0 to Esperance Sportive de Tunis on Tunisa on Friday.

With the return leg at Loftus in mind this coming Friday, head coach Rulani Mokwena rung in the changes and Tashreeq Matthews gave them a dream start, scoring in the first minute.

Thapelo Morena, who started up front alongside Matthews netted the second after seven minute before a rather scrappy, stop-start game ensued to the break.

Lehlohonolo Seema made two changes just before the break, clearly not happy with the output of his team, which Lehlohonolo Mtshali and Jamie Webber hauled off form Chibuike Ohizu and Kamohelo Mokotjo.

The changes paid dividends, five minutes into the second half, when Ohizu restored the deficit from the penalty spot but Sundowns managed the game to perfection to secure three points and record 22 league games unbeaten in the 2023/24 campaign, a new record.
