New Orlando Pirates centre-forward Sebastian Pedersen has expressed excitement at joining the Betway Premiership champions and could not pass on the opportunity upon learning of the interest.

Pirates announced the signing of Pedersen last night from Norwegian 1st Division side Sogndal on an undisclosed transfer fee. The 27-year-old striker scored eight goals and had one assist in 14 appearances.

Pedersen played for all Norway national team divisions from under-16 until under-21, but he is yet to make his senior national debut. In 2016/17 season, he finished as the golden boot winner with 25 goals in Norsk Tipping-Ligaenavdeling 2 which is the fourth tier in Norway.

The Norwegian has explained his excitement of joining Pirates on the Sogndal official club website, with his arrival expected this week ahead of the Buccaneers’ first league game of the season between Pirates and newly promoted Milford FC.

“This feels like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It is such a huge club that I couldn’t pass up the chance when it arose,” Pedersen said.

“At first, I was a bit sceptical, but the more I’ve learned about the club and life in South Africa, the more excited I’ve become. I am very grateful that Sogndal reached an agreement with Orlando Pirates.

“I’ve had an incredible time at Sogndal. I felt welcome from the very first second, and the local community embraced me.

“It has been a fantastic place to be, both on and off the pitch. I’m left with many great memories and am grateful for my time here.”
