Zungu Reveals Details About Folz Exit

AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu has revealed why Romain Folz left the club, saying he wanted to retain the French coach in an advisory role.

Folz, who Zungu named him as Fohloza during his unveiling, did not win a single match with Marumo Gallants in the beginning of the campaign before AmaZulu appointed him to replace Brandon Truter.

Folz joined the club in October, following the loss to Richards Bay in the same month at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. However, Folz did not last long, and he was redeployed as the technical advisor in April and Ayanda Dlamini was given the caretaker post until the end of the season.

Both Folz and Dlamini have since left the club which was confirmed by the president during a press conference on Monday morning, with Zungu explaining he would’ve kept the Frenchman as advisor but he wants to get back to the dugout.

“I said I would like to retain him [Fohloza] in some advising role, he indicated that he wants to get back into the bench,” said Zungu.

“And he is exploring the number of options. But I’m not going to cast aspersions, we are very happy with the role that Fohloza played in AmaZulu and we wish the best in the future endeavours.”

Fohloza left after he was given a new three-year deal by the Usuthu president earlier in the year, but Zungu insisted the new contract was not in place yet and would’ve only come into effect in July.

“People don’t understand how I operate,” said Zungu.

“They will never understand because it is not my responsibility to explain it. The contract of Fohloza of three years has not come into effect, but it was important at that time because I was trying to make a statement just in case any player is harbouring and labouring the thought of it’s either them or Fohloza, that we have a coach.

“I have subscribed to the philosophy that we have a coach on the long-term deal that we have to follow the lead of the coach and you can’t coach yourself.”

Overall, Fohloza was in charge of 19 matches in all competitions, winning just four, losing six and drawing nine.
