AmaZulu FC midfielder Bongani Zungu has explained that he needed a break from the game and found the time out to be beneficial to him mentally.
Zungu left Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of last season and remained club less while training alone until he signed a deal with Usuthu in December 2024.
The 32-year-old has since played two matches for the KwaZulu-Natal-based outfit and has scored a goal.
Speaking to iDiski Times writer Lethabo Kganyago in edition 187 of the newspaper, the former Amiens and Glasgow Rangers man shared about the future during his break and to prepare to be in a better head space for when he returned.
“For me, personally, you know, I needed time for myself because I was personally going through some difficulties mentally,” Zungu told iDiski Times.
“Like I had a very difficult period, so I took time to spend time with my family and try to ask myself, what is it that I want and what I need for my career at this moment in time. So, that time was really good.
“I was just taking time and obviously training on my own. Obviously, training on your own is very difficult, but for me, I used it just for mental strength so that when I feel ready to play again, you know, I’m in a good space.”
