Augsburg’s Uduokahi Singles Out Chiefs Legend

FC Augsburg defender Felix Uduokhai has singled out Siphiwe Tshabalala amongst the South African players he knows.

The highly-rated defender, who played for Germany U19 until the Olympic team looks poised to play for Nigeria, should the Nigeria Football Federation make the move. However, upon arriving in South Africa, he was quizzed about his knowledge of footballers.

And the Augsburg man was quite honest and upfront saying he doesn’t know many players from the country, with the Bafana Bafana icon and his former teammate in Germany the exceptions.

“Ohhh [I know a South African player] not in person, but when I watched the World Cup in 2010, he was the man who scored the first goal, Shabalaba (sic), don’t know how to say the name or pronounce, but of course with the dreads,” Uduokahi said.

“Yeah he had dreads and he scored the first goal, it was amazing! His left foot, with the right corner in the goal, and then the celebration together- that’s what I remember when I think about South Africa.

“But I had a teammate from South Africa when I played for 1860 Munch, his name was Daylon Claasen, and he was from South Africa. So I had a good teammate in him.”

Uduokhai and Claasen, who recently returned to South Africa with Cape Town Spurs, were at the same club between 2014 and 2017.
