Bundesliga Coach – Our Scouts Are Monitoring PSL For Players

Augsburg Football Club head coach Jess Thorup has admitted the Bundesliga side are monitoring the Premier Soccer League for potential players, admitting he has seen some “very exciting players” already.

The Bundesliga side came to South Africa for their pre-season training camp, which was the club’s first ever camp outside of Europe.

The Fuggerstädter enjoyed their trip to Mpumalanga very much, with everyone – including the coach – at the club still buzzing about their time in Mzansi.

“We enjoyed our trip there, it gave us an opportunity to learn a little bit about the culture, the society,” he said during the Bundesliga Media Visit at the club, which was attended by iDiski Times journalist David Kappel.

“It was a very warm welcome we got there, the facilities were great. We had two very good weeks there of preparation.”

As part of their camp, Augsburg also faced Tanzanian giants Young Africans, as well as PSL side TS Galaxy as part of the Mpumalanga Premier’s Cup, beating Yanga 2-1 before losing by the same scoreline to The Rockets.

Thorup, who at the time already revealed that the club’s head scout had accompanied him on the trip to South Africa, has now admitted that the club are still following the PSL to scout for potential signings.

“We had the opportunity to play against two teams, and had a nice experience also to see what can we learn from African teams, can they add to our way of playing,” he added.

“And it’s, of course, also a league [the PSL] that we have an eye on to see if there is some talent that we can use in the future.

“I think there were a couple of players that were very exciting and our scouting team is following the league very closely to see if there is something that we can use, but I cannot comment more on that.”
