Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile and Kahraba of Al Ahly will share the 2022/23 CAF Champions League Golden Boot award this season.
Ahly secured the title on Sunday after a 3-2 aggregate win over Wydad Atheltic Club and while Kahraba didn’t find the net, he scored six goals in 10 games in the campaign (excluding the preliminary rounds), which marked a remarkable turnaround in his career, after initially being frozen out under previous management.
Meanwhile, Shalulile scored six in eight games as Sundowns fell out at the semi-final stage of the competition against last season’s champions Wydad – and this included a brace in an incredible 5-2 win over the Red Devils at Loftus Verfeld in the group stage.
Wydad striker Bouly Sambou (two in the preliminary rounds), and Yanga’s Fiston Mayele scored seven (all in the preliminary rounds) while Ahmed Zizo (five goals in preliminary rounds) of Zamalek and Cassius Mailula (two goals in preliminary rounds) netted six, but for the Golden Boot, only goals scored from the group stage are considered for the award.
Shalulile becomes the first player since Themba Zwane in the 2018/19 season to scoop the award.
