Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye believes there are a lot of positives to take for Orlando Pirates despite missing out on the CAF Champions League final.
Pirates went down 3-2 in the second leg of their semi-final tie with Pyramids FC at the 30 June stadium on Friday heartbreakingly in the dying minutes of the game to lose the tie 3-2 on aggregate having led throughout the game.
Khanye says the coach Jose Riveiro giving youngsters a chance to play at this level and the youngsters stepping up is something the club can be proud of especially if they want to make a comeback next season.
“Reaching the semi-final is a positive thing for Pirates,” said Khanye on iDiski TV.
“There is a bright future ahead for these kids you can even look at their age. It’s a pity that the coach is leaving because it’s important for a coach to have an understanding with his players. He brought out the best out of his players. For me the best team lost today.
“Even though he is leaving Jose can be proud of himself especially for giving youngsters a chance. It’s not every coach that plays a semi-final with young players especially continental football. He took a risk and look at how these boys are deciding games.
“Take [Mohau] Nkota for example he scored four goals in this tournament. The boys can walk with their heads high I think they did very well.”
