Khanye – Why Pirates Need To Sign Zungu

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye believes Orlando Pirates need a holding number 6 player like Bongani Zungu if they are to progress further in the CAF Champions League.

The Buccaneers saw off Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy 1-0 in the second leg to qualify for the group stages for the first time in five years with a 3-0 aggregate score, with Khanye not impressed with the players who currently play in that position, emphasizing on how the likes of Makhehleni Makhaula lost balls and did not even possess the arrogance to boss the position.

Zungu has been a free agent since parting ways with Mamelodi Sundowns, and the former Kaizer Chiefs winger says people should forget about Zungu‘s age because that doesn’t even affect his quality and his style of play which is more attacking and can benefit the Soweto giants.

“Forget his [Bongani Zungu] age,” Khanye said on iDiski TV.

“And I don’t care who says what, but they need to know that they hardly reach anywhere like the quarterfinals. Forget age, I mean if a player is good, he is good, quality is quality and that’s how they mature. So, Pirates need Bongani Zungu.

“If they can get that boy and even someone like Kamohelo Mokotjo it would be good for them. I mean someone who is fearless, someone who can deliver defense splitting passes. Credit to his past coaches like Rulani [Mokwena] and Pitso [Mosimane] because they worked on him post his days at Tuks.

“I mean his crosses are like those of players who play in the number 10 position. He plays forward passes more than backwards and sideways. They need Bongani Zungu.”
