Mamelodi Sundowns senior coach Steve Komphela has revealed what right-back Khuliso Mudau did before the side’s CAF Champions League triumph.

Mudau, 31, has been hailed one of the best right-backs in the country and on the continent. He was instrumental in Sundowns clinching their second African title last term in a season Sundowns relinquished their domestic title.

Komphela told iDiski Times senior journalist Matshelane Mamabolo in edition 262 of the newspaper how hurt the former Black Leopards man was when the Brazilians came short in the Champions League the previous year.

The coach further revealed that Mudau in the midst of a challenging season asked him to remind the group of the stakes in the continental inter-club tournament.

“In the week leading up to the CAF Champions League, we were entangled in a mirage of emotions as we were campaigning in the domestic league and the results were not coming,” Komphela told iDiski Times.

“The mood collapsed in the camp, and he came to me after one training session and asked me to make the rest of the squad aware of what was at stake.

“He asked me, ‘I don’t know if you made these guys aware of the significance of the match we are going to play, it is a 100 million rand match’.

“He sees things at the elite level in terms of what has to be achieved; he’s got a different vision to most players.”
