Rulani On Downs Future After Another CAFCL Exit

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has admitted his fate is in the hands of the club’s bosses after his side were knocked in the CAF Champions League semi-final for back-to-back seasons under his leadership.

Mokwena’s side lost 1-0 to Esperance Sportive de Tunis at Loftus Versfeld on Friday evening, despite dominating large parts of the game and accumulating 27 shots.

However, they again failed to score, going 360 minutes of Champions league knockout football without a goal.

Ahead of the match, Mokwena, who is in his second season as sole head coach, had asked for four years to deliver the CAF Champions League title, but admitted afterwards that his future is in the hands of the club’s bosses.

“I don’t run the football club, do I,” he told Mazola Molefe on SABC3.

“I’m here because of the results and if they are not good enough I won’t be here.

“I want to be here, I love this club, I love the supporters of this club, I love this incredible group of players, I want to be here.

“But as you rightfully say, it’s a results-oriented business.”

Sundowns now turn their attention back to domestic football, as they will face TS Galaxy and Kaizer Chiefs in the league on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively before their Nedbank Cup semi-final against Stellenbosch FC on Sunday.
