Rulani Opens Up On Zwane Absence

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena says they missed their captain Themba Zwane but can’t fault his players after the 0-0 draw against Young Africans SC.

Sundowns and Yanga played out to a goaless draw in their 1st leg CAF Champions League quarter-final in Dar es Salaam on Saturday evening without the inspirational captain.

Zwane was suspended for the encounter while the home side were missing three key players of their own in the form of Khalid Aucho, Pacôme Zouzoua and Kouassi Attohoula.

“He’s the captain of our team, an important part of our team and of course, we missed him a little bit today but everyone tried, I’m happy with the commitment and effort, especially in the second half,” Mokwena said.

“Okay, let’s build from that. It’s not always easy coming from a FIFA break, the first game after an international break – but okay let’s see how it goes.”

Sundowns now turn their attention to DStv Premiership action on Tuesday against Richards Bay before the return leg next Friday at Loftus Versfeld.
