ASFAR head coach Alexandre Santos is adamant that his charges are able to overturn the deficit result after their CAF Champions League final first leg defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Moroccan outfit, who are only making their first final since 1986, narrowly went down 1-0 to Masandawana at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Aubrey Modiba scored the only goal of the match in the 37th minute with an audacious free-kick from outside the box to hand his side a huge advantage heading into the second leg next weekend. He was however hauled off later in the game after appearing to have pulled his hamstring.

The hosts created an avalanche of chances in the tie but failed to convert them with Brayan Leon mainly the culprit after going on two one-v-one situations more than once.

Speaking to the media after the match, Santos maintained confidence that they do stand a chance to overturn the result though he admitted his side face a very big and strong Sundowns team.

“We expected more opportunities to score but we’re in the first half and the second half will be next weekend, and we have to do more,” he said.

“For sure, we will do more because we could do.

“It was not easy. It was not easy because Sundowns is a very big team. A very strong team.

“Everybody knows, and everybody of our team knows we have a very good chance to face Sundowns next week and to do what we want.

“It’s score and reverse the result and get the title.”
