Simba SC coach Fadlu Davids has revealed he received a message from an Orlando Pirates official after his side qualified for the CAF Confederations Cup final.
Davids and Simba progressed to the final after beating Stellenbosch FC 1-0 on aggregate following a goalless draw in the second leg in Durban.
The South African tactician has now reached his second CAFCC final after losing the 2022 version on penalties when Thembinkosi Lorch missed his spot-kick after scoring a late equaliser in extra-time.
Davids revealed he was reminded that he has an open score with Berkane, who his side will meet in the final after they beat CS Constantine 4-1 on aggregate despite a 1-0 defeat in the second log.
“I just got a message from one of the important officials of Orlando Pirates that said ‘you must remember it was Berkane that beat us on penalties’,” he said after full-time in Durban, and before knowing the score in the other semi-final, as Ayanda Nyuswa.
“That match still haunts me. We beat Simba in the quarter-final, then we got Al Ahli Tripoli and then we got Berkane and we lost on penalties.
“Berkane is an improved side, we played against this coach last season, we know him quite well. We know Constantine as well, in CAF football let’s not say Berkane, cause Constantine need four goals.
“But Berkane has one foot in the final. Also, we’ve got four important league matches now in the space of two weeks before we travel to Morocco or Algeria.
“It’s about our catch-up games now, two-days a match, two-days a match [rhythm]. We’ll celebrate, have our day off and then focus on collecting the points catch up the 12 points that we are behind.”
