Moroccan champions RS Berkane moved a step closer to their third CAF Confederation Cup trophy after defeating Fadlu Davids’ Simba SC in the first leg.
Berkane have been ruthless upfront since the tournament started, and coming to this game, they were the clear favourites. And the home side wasted no time, as they took the lead inside the eighth minute through Mamadou Camara.
The Orange Army kept on coming as they were looking to double the lead, and they finally did after the 14th minute as Oussama Lamlaoui made it 2-0. Things became more difficult for the Tanzanian giants as the Moroccans were all over them. Simba goalkeeper Camara kept the scoreline descent in the going into the break.
The second half began with Simba looking to get an away goal, which would be helpful ahead of the second, but Berkane answered all the questions Simba were asking.
Berkane got back in control of the game and looked more threatening, looking to get the third goal. They got rewarded with the pressure they were piling after Mamadou Camara scored, but VAR intervened to rule it offside.
Things nearly got worse for Simba after a huge penalty shout from Berkane in the 70th minute when Oussama Lamlioui was appeared to be pulled by Chamou Karaboue inside the box, but the referee waved play on.
The game ended 2-0 in favour of Berkane, and Simba SC now have to all to play in the second leg in Tanzania as they look to overcome the 2-0 deficit.
