Chipezeze Preparing Prime Banter For Pirates?

Magesi captain Elvis Chipezeze has hinted his antics may be on show against Orlando Pirates, if the situation allows in their Carling Knockout clash.

The Motsepe Foundation Championship title winners have endured a difficult start to life in the topflight with two defeats, one draw and a victory in their opening four games.

And it gets no easier as they take on a Pirates side that has won three MTN8 titles and two Nedbank Cup titles in succession.

The 34-year-old goalkeeper, famously known for his time-wasting tactics to frustrate opposition, hinted, that they will do all they can to win, in a game where they have more to gain than to lose in their first taste of a top-flight cup competition.

“Once the opportunity arises, we are going to make people laugh a little bit, it’s football but at the end of the day, some hate it, some love it, but at the end of the day it’s football banter and we do what we have to do,” he said.

“We do it to keep the entertainment going. We just have to see on the day [if Magesi take the lead]. We have a good squad with senior players and some young kids coming through who have never tasted this big stage.

“It’s an opportunity for them to showcase their talent and be recognised also in the country because there’s a lot of talent there, I have no doubt we have talent but players need opportunities like this to be seen and make a step forward in their career.”

On the facing Pirates at Orlando Stadium, the Zimbabwe international admits it’s a new stage an environment, that the club and it’s supporters are just going to enjoy being a part of this weekend.

“It’s a good fixture for us, as the babies of the league, we know we didn’t start well but we’re growing into the league also,” Chipezeze said.

“We’ve managed to learn a lot about where we need to improve a team, as a football club, so it’s exciting times for us and our passionate supporters, it’s a dream for them to be where we are today, so we’re just excited.”

“For us, it’s to go out there and enjoy it, play with a smile on your face, knowing you are playing one of the big teams in the country and also Africa,” he added.

“We know they have done well in the past [cup competitions], so we’re just happy to be where we are now, so we take the game as it comes and take the supporters happy.”

Pirates host the Limpopo-based outfit at eSgodini on Saturday afternoon (15h00).
