Stellenbosch captain Deano Van Rooyen and his cousin Ashley Du Preez are set for a family reunion as they are set to go head-to-head in the Carling Cup on Saturday at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
The cousins, who grew up together, and attended Lückhoff Highschool in Stellies, were two of the first players to come through the club’s development system.
While Du Preez’s first team exploits earned him a move to Kaizer Chiefs in 2022, Van Rooyen’s stature also grew and he has become the leader of Steve Barker’s team, and he led the club to their first-ever silverware.
But not just that, Stellies Carling Knockout success also set up a family reunion on Saturday.
Du Preez, meanwhile, was voted into the Carling All Stars side, which will feature stars from a few clubs, as well as five DStv Diski Challenge players.
It will also be a chance to pay another fitting tribute to the late Oshwin Andries, who died last year at the start of February. Andries is a relative of both Van Rooyen and Du Preez and Stellenbosch dedicated their Carling Knockout success to the late defender.
