Doc Predicts Bright Future For Chiefs Talent, But Also Sends Warning

Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo has predicted a bright future for Amakhosi starlet Mfundo Vilakazi after his fine performance in the Carling Cup, but also sent a warning to the youngster.

The 17-year-old trained with the Amakhosi first team before their league match with Richards Bay last month, however he is yet to make his first-team debut.

But he had a brilliant performance in the Carling Black Label Cup, scoring the opener as the PSL All Stars beat Stellenbosch FC at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

After the match, Khumalo hailed the youngster and praised his confidence, predicting a bright future for ‘Obrigado’.

“It takes a young boy with a brave heart to take responsibility and this is what he did,” he said on SABC Sport.

“If this boy continues like this, he’s going to be one of the best players.

“Yes, of course it’s an error by the goalkeeper, but the kicker of the ball [says] ‘I’m responsible, I’m taking it.

“It shows, the coach gave the boys confidence and there could’ve been another player who’ve taken that free-kick, even Du Preez would’ve taken it.

“But he opted to take it, that shows the strength and confidence of the youngster.”

But Khumalo also sent a warning to the young star, saying he should focus on his game rather than trying to please the fans.

“[Mfundo said] ‘but then I tried to make supporters happy the way I normally do in the DDC’. No! No! Let’s correct that one, let’s take it out of his brain,” he added.

“I did what I’ve done at DDC, which is to make supporters happy on a bigger scale. I personally I don’t know, it’s not about who you want to make happy…”
