Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has detailed how Amakhosi were outclassed in the Carling Knockout quarterfinal loss to Mamelodi Sundowns over the weekend.
Iqraam Rayners put up a Man-of-the-Match performance, scoring a brace while Peter Shalulile and Khuliso Mudau also recorded their names on the scoresheet as they progressed with a resounding 4-0 success at a sold out Soccer City.
Khanye says the difference in quality of the players showed on the day with Chiefs never even troubling the opponents’ defense. Khanye also feels that Sundowns did their homework from Chiefs’ tough games in Polokwane against SuperSport United and Magesi FC coming away with just a point from a possible six.
“I think Chiefs were outclassed today, I need to be honest,” said Khanye on iDiski TV.
“They were outclassed and I think there were high hopes from fans but we need to be honest.
“Truly speaking the level of players today showed that it is not the same. How Sundowns scouts players and how they scout players at Chiefs is totally different. It was visible today.
“The game was finished in the first half. I won’t even talk about the Sundowns defense because they did not do much. Chiefs never troubled Sundowns defensively and compliments to the Sundowns midfielders who complimented their front three.
“Their game management was always surprising Chiefs. Sundowns was very patient in their build-up from the back, sucking Chiefs to come out and then playing behind.
“I think Sundowns watched Chiefs’ game from during the week.”
