Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Gaston Sirino could be in the squad that will face TS Galaxy in the Carling Knockout Cup this evening at Mbombela Stadium after he has travelled with the team to Nelspruit.
Sirino was understood to have submitted a transfer request during the recent transfer window, with coach Rulani Mokwena confirming the player had asked him to leave.
However, with seemingly no club coming forward with a suitable offer for the 32-year-old, he remained with the club but was training alone for some period.
He hasn’t played any official game this season after making 27 appearances and scoring three goals in all competitions last season.
iDiski Times has now learnt that there may have been a twist as Sirino has traveled with Sundowns for the first time this season and could be in contention for their Carling Knockout Cup Round of 16 tie with TS Galaxy.
It is not clear at the present whether he will be named in the final 20-man match-day squad that will be contesting for a place in the quarter-finals of the knockout cup. But with the absence of seven key players Sirino is likely to be considered by Mokwena.
Masandawana have a tight schedule due to their participation in the inaugural African Football League (AFL).
The DStv Premiership champions side are expected to leave the country after their clash with Galaxy to travel to Angola where they will face Petro de Luanda in the quarter-final first leg on Saturday.
