Rama Impressed By Pirates Trio

AmaZulu defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele has revealed three Orlando Pirates players who’ve impressed him with the Carling All Stars squad.

Mphahlele is set to marshall the back-four alongside Njabulo Ngcobo, while his former teammate Itumeleng Khune captains the XI.

Having trained twice now under head coach Jose Riveiro, all of whom were voted in by the fans – ‘Rama’ admits some of the young talent, which he didn’t want to mention by name over perhaps fears of creating hype, impressed him.

However, he did speak to the quality of some Buccaneers, who clearly gave him a hard time during the training sessions in Polokwane over the past couple of days.

“When you play against somebody you think ‘Oh he’s good’ but when you really get to be next to him [in training] and you have to press him and try and get the ball from him is when you realise okay this guy has huge potential,” he said.

“I don’t maybe if I say his name he’s going to feel like no he’s the boss, I won’t say his name – I’ll mention one who’s a first teamer, Phillip Ndlondlo, he’s an amazing player, the things he does with the ball… the vision he has.

“Obviously Lorch too, everyone knows what Lorch can do. But the youngsters man, I’m really, really there’s a right-back from Pirates with big potential, Jabu [Mokone], very young, speedy – let’s see how they come up against Stellies.

“I don’t want to say they are so good and then when he doesn’t do well we hammer him.”

The game against Carling Knockout Champions Stellenbosch kicks off at 15h00 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
