Chiefs Go Top, Downs Lose & Bucs Off The Mark

Kaizer Chiefs reserves leapfrogged Mamelodi Sundowns into top spot of the DStv Diski Challenge standings while Orlando Pirates registered their first three points of the new campaign.

Chiefs clawed their way back from a goal down to beat Sekhukhune United 2-1 and maintain their 100% record this term. Amakhosi remain the only unbeaten side after match-day three and lead the standings with nine points.

Newcomers Magesi shocked Sundowns 2-1 via Mahudu Raphesu’s late strike to steal a win at Lucas Moripe Stadium, for their first loss of the season. Downs were reduced to 10 men the first half but managed to get an equaliser just before the halftime.

AmaZulu played a 1-1 draw against Polokwane City, a third successive draw for Vusumuzi Vilakazi’s Usuthu. Meanwhile, Rise and Shine drew a match for the second successive time. 

Pirates wrapped the Saturday with a massive win as they beat Marumo Gallants 2-0 to register their first win of the season following two previous draws. The Sea Robbers came to this match after two consecutive draws against AmaZulu and Cape Town City.

Sunday kicked off with SuperSport United sharing the spoils with Chippa United in a 1-1 draw.

The Western Cape derby took centre stage as the last match of the round between Cape Town City and Stellenbosch, with the bragging rights and three points all belonging to City after coming from a goal down to defeat the defending champions 3-1 at a packed Malt Park after they were reduced to 10 men following a red card to Tyler Smith.
