Chiefs Move Top, Pirates Win & Downs Lose

Kaizer Chiefs made a long-awaited return to the summit of the DStv Diski Challenge table while Orlando Pirates won again and Mamelodi Sundowns suffered a shock loss.

The Glamour Boys were again in rampant mood as they recorded a deserved 3-0 win over Marumo Gallants courtesy of strikes from Siyabonga Gumede, Naledi Hlongwane and Imaad Hendricks. Vela Khumalo’s charges are now on 45 points, one ahead of second-placed Stellenbosch FC who have played a game more.

SuperSport United moved third and above Tshwane rivals Mamelodi Sundowns after recording a 3-1 win over Polokwane City with Siviwe Magidigidi netting a hat-trick.

Chippa United and Cape Twon City played to a pulsating 2-2 draw. City are currently the highest scoring team in the DStv Diski Challenge with 52 goals but have hugely lost ground in the title race as they now sit in sixth while the Chilli Boys are 15th.

On Sunday, Orlando Pirates recorded their fifth successive victory after narrowly beating Golden Arrows 1-0 thanks to skipper Cemran Dansin who pounced off an error to finish from close range.

Sundowns failed on the chance to narrow the gap at the top after they succumbed to a shock 1-0 defeat at the hands of struggling Magesi FC. Clement Moshwana’s strike in the 67th minute was enough to see Dikwena Tsa Meetse walk away with maximum points.
