This weekend’s DStv Diski Challenge title race could take a new twist with defending champions Stellenbosch FC away to Orlando Pirates while Kaizer Chiefs will be inactive and Mamelodi Sundowns welcome Richards Bay.
Kaizer Chiefs will be two games behind after this weekend’s fixture against Royal AM was cancelled as they won’t be playing. Amakhosi will however remain second without kicking a ball regardless of the outcome of the other fixtures. They are on 42 while Sundowns and SuperSport United are on 38 points.
Chiefs’ eyes will be glued on the Stellenbosch FC clash against Pirates, which will take place at Isak Steyl Stadium, the home of the Buccaneers. The Cape Winelands side have an opportunity to extend their lead to five points. Meanwhile, Pirates could open the title chase wide with a win.
Sundowns have tricky opponents this weekend, Bay, who are in seventh place with 31 points after 19 games. David Notoane’s side come into this tie on the back of a defeat against Cape Town City in a five-goal thriller in Cape Town.
Also, the Golden Boot Race is heating up with Cape Town City striker Cee-Jay Bezuidenhout leading the pack with 14 goals, followed by Pirates talisman Siphamandla Msezane with 12 goals. Stellenbosch winger Faiz Abrahams is sitting in third place with 11 goals.
