Stellies Blow DDC Title Race Open

Stellenbosch have blown the DStv Diski Challenge title race open after their 2-1 win over league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday afternoon.

The Sunday fixtures started with a bang as Richards Bay smashed 10-man TS Galaxy 5-0 with Thandoluhle Gazu, Wandile Ngema brace, Siphesihle Buthelezi and Nkosikhona Ndaba all finding the net.

AmaZulu then fell to their 17th defeat of the season with a 2-1 loss at home to Cape Town Spurs before the main event, where Sundowns, who appeared to be running away with the title were dealt a blow by an experienced Stellebosch outfit.

The likes of Thulani Mini, Mervin Boji and Liam de Kock were all named in the starting XI and it was the former Chippa United star, and an own goal that secure three points in Idas Valley.

The win moves Stellies to 51 points, two behind Sundowns with six games remaining in the 2023/24 season.
