CT City Star Jets Out Of SA To Complete Coaching Badges

Cape Town City defender Marc Van Heerden has jetted out of South Africa to complete his UEFA B License coaching badges in Scotland.

The veteran defender will miss the Citizens’ last league match of the season against Mamelodi Sundowns due to suspension after he received his fourth yellow card of the campaign in their 3-1 win against Richards Bay at DHL Stadium.

City all but confirmed their top-eight finish with that win, keeping their record of qualifying for every MTN8 since the club’s existence.

Eric Tinkler’s charges could still finish in sixth spot, provided that Sekhukhune United fail to pick up a win away to Chippa United, and City stop Sundowns in their tracks and become the first team to beat them this season.

The experienced defender played 28 matches across all competitions this term, scoring once and providing a single assist in the process. His only goal this campaign was a header against Kaizer Chiefs in the MTN8 quarterfinal clash at Athlone Stadium.

The 36-year-old is currently in Scotland to complete his UEFA B License via the Scottish FA.

It remains unclear if the experience defender will continue his football journey at City when the new season gets underway, as his contract at the Western Cape-based outfit is set to expire at the end of June 2024.
