Johnson Reacts To Missing Out On Top 8

Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson said they finished the season on a very low note after losing 2-0 to relegated Cape Town Spurs to finish the season in their worst-ever position in the club’s history.

It was a result that not only saw the Amakhosi lose out on a top-eight spot, but they finished the campaign in an all-time low position of tenth in the DStv Premiership.

Johnson was disappointed by his team’s overall performance, and said Spurs capitalised on their errors.

“We did not perform at the best, we lose the game,” Johnson said post match.

“And I thought we make two mistakes. One is the inability to clear the ball, the other one, your player is looking for a free-kick. I don’t know where he’s gonna get it from but you leave the ball and they scored the goal.

“But in saying that, we couldn’t make five passes. And when we in that position, you have to try and bring on players who can change the game for you. And we come out second half and we put on a lot of not younger players, but quicker players and we try and get it done but not to be.

“We have to finish the season off on a very, very low note, and at the same time, go out and try and fix what is really not working at the moment. So yeah. Not a good game for Kaizer Chiefs today.”

When asked what it felt personally to oversee that record low, and what his future holds, Johnson said it hurt.

“As a coach, very, very heartsore,” he replied.

“But for the future, I’m gonna have to see.”
