Newly appointed Mamelodi Sundowns Senior Coach Steve Komphela says he is happy to be back where he is loved.
Komphela had left Chloorkop ahead of 2023/24, first joining Moroka Swallows before moving on to Golden Arrows after the well-documented financial struggles, which ultimately led to the club’s sale to Marumo Gallants.
On Saturday, just a few days after the departure of head coach Rulani Mokwena, the reigning DStv Premiership champions confirmed the return of Komphela.
“I am very excited to be back at Mamelodi Sundowns where I was always inspired and treated with respect and love,” he said.
“I am committed to contributing to the Club achieving its goals in South Africa and on the African Continent.”
It’s his second stint at Chloorkop after initially joining in October 2020 following the departure of Pitso Mosimane and initially serving as co-coach alongside Mokwena and Mngqithi.
In October 2022, Mokwena was appointed as sole head coach, while Komphela was named First Team coach and Mngqithi was named Senior Coach.
