Richards Bay & Baroka Tie Ends In Stalemate In Lebowakgomo

Match three of six in the PSL Promotion/Playoff between Baroka FC and Richards Bay ended in an uninspiring 0-0 draw at Global Stadium in Lebowakgomo on Saturday afternoon.

Salim Moagoola was called into action just 40 seconds into match when Tshidiso Patjie whipped in a cross but the Ugandan international coolly collected it.

Bakgakga could’ve been 1-0 up in the 11th minute when a low cross again from Patjie on the right found its way into the box but no Baroka player was in sight for a tap in.

Captain Simphiwe Mcineka tried his luck from range in the 21st minute, which failed to trouble Katlego Molefe in the Baroka goal.

Magoola was the busiest of the two goalkeepers and was again in the 23rd minute forced to deal with another floated-in cross.

The Natal Rich Boyz’s first shot on target came in the 27th minute when Somila Nsundwana raced down the left, turning the Baroka defenders inside-out but Molefe denied him at the near post to keep the score 0-0.

Baroka had the ball in the back of the net in the 29th minute but Referee Thando Ndzandzeka blew the whistle for a foul on Magoola.

Mcineka had the best chance of the match a minute later with a headed effort from a cross which sailed inches over the crossbar with Molefe beaten. Thereon, no team really threatened as the first period ended 0-0.

The second half failed to provide any spark in the early stages. Siyabonga Mtombeni broke through the Bay defence in the 60th minute but skied his effort.

Sanele Barns was not fast enough to race all the way and score as Thulani Sikhosana intercepted him at the edge of the Baroka box in the 70th minute.

Khomotso Lekoloane was not far from opening the scoring in the 77th minute with a bullet shot from just outside the box which unfortunately sailed wide.

The visitors came ever-so close to breaking the deadlock when Justice Figareido got a snapshot at the near post in the 82nd minute but Molefe dived low to punch it away.

The two sides could not be separated in the end as they shared the spoils. Richards Bay stayed top of the standings with four points while Bakgakga have just one point from two outings.
