Manchester United have received a takeover bid from Qatari billionaire Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad bin Jaber Al Thani.
Sheikh Hamad Bin-Jaber al-Thani, known as HBJ, who is lifelong United fan, is the chairman of one of Qatar’s biggest banks and has an estimated net worth of $1.3 billion, according to Forbes.
The current owners, the Glazer family, who bought the club in 2005, put United up for sale in November with Friday night being the first deadline to submit offers.
Al Thani is the first to go public with his offer, via a statement first published by the Financial Times.
“The bid plans to return the Club to its former glories both on and off the pitch, and – above all – will seek to place the fans at the heart of Manchester United Football Club once more,” a statement from Al Thani said.
“The bid will be completely debt free via Sheikh Jassim’s Nine Two Foundation, which will look to invest in the football teams, the training centre, the stadium and wider infrastructure, the fan experience and the communities the Club supports.”
