Manchester United have appointed 39-year-old Sporting CP manager Rúben
Amorim as their new head coach after sacking Erik Ten Hag on Monday.
The last straw for the Dutch mentor came in the wake of their 2-1 loss at West Ham United on Sunday, condemning United to 14th place on the English Premier League standings with just two wins in nine.
Amorim already boasts impressive stats with his Portuguese side this term having won nine of their nine opening league fixtures and sit on 27 points three ahead of second-placed Porto.
The Red Devils confirmed via a club statement on Friday afternoon of Amorim’s appointment on a three-deal, with his tenure commencing on 11 November, subject to work visa requirements.
Since arriving at Sporting in 2020, Amorim has won two Portuguese titles – 2020/21 and including last season, back-to-back Portuguese League cup trophies in 2020/21 & 2021/22 and the Portuguese Super Cup in 2021/22.
