Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola achieved one small victory over the Anfield fans by raising six fingers as a reminder of the number of Premier League titles he has won following his side’s 2-0 defeat to Liverpool.
The result left the Cityzens in the unfamiliar fifth position on the Premier League table, as Arne Slot’s troops moved 11 points clear of the champions.
Liverpool fans had taken aim at Guardiola chanting “you’re getting sacked in the morning” towards the end of the showdown on Sunday.
After the match, Guardiola again repeated the gesture when he went to clap City fans in the away end, before addressing the hand gesture.
“All the stadiums want to sack me, it started at Brighton! Maybe they are right with the results we’ve been having. I didn’t expect that at Anfield,” Guardiola said according to Daily Mail.
“They didn’t do it at 1-0, but at 2-0. Maybe they should have sung it in the past. I didn’t expect it from the people from Liverpool but it’s fine, it’s part of the game, and I understand completely.
“We’ve had incredible battles together. I have a respect for them.”
City have now lost six of their last seven matches and next face Nottingham Forest on Wednesday at the Etihad.
