Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah has been named the Football Writer’s Association Footballer of the Year for the third time.
The 32-year-old has previously won the award in 2018 and 2022 and becomes just the second player to achieve this feat after former Arsenal and France striker Thierry Henry.

The Egyptian captain won 90 per cent of votes cast by the FWA’s over 900 members, pipping teammate Virgin Van Dijk as well as Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak and Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice to win football’s oldest and most prestigious individual award.
Salah scored 28 goals and provided a further 18 assists in 35 games on their way to the club’s 20th league title.
In the women’s category, Alessia Russo of Arsenal won the Women’s Footballer of the Year award ahead of her current Gunners team-mate Mariona Caldentey, Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw of Manchester City and Chelsea’s Millie Bright.
The players will receive their trophies at the Footballer of the Year dinner, which is scheduled for Thursday, 22 May at the Landmark London.
