Cape Town City midfielder Emile Witbooi has broken his silence on his Chelsea trial saying it was a good experience.
The 16-year-old sensation spent the last month trialling at the English Premier League side having impressed in the national U15 side last year in the DDC league for City and the national U20s where he helped South Africa qualify for 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations.
Witbooi, who is yet to make his first team appearance for the Citizens, was recently part of the Amajimbos squad at the COSAFA U17 Boys Youth Championship where South Africa exited at the semifinals stage.
He told iDiski Times in edition 185 that what he experienced in London, is the level he aspires to be at.
“It was a good experience for me to go to Chelsea, to see the level,” Witbooi told iDiski Times.
“Because that’s the level where I want to see myself, where I want to be. It’s been a good experience. And I saw what it takes to be there.”
The achievements have also brought with them attention for the youngster and he added that he has a balanced approach to handling it.
“How do I handle the attention from the people? I’d say, I don’t take the things they say for granted,” added Witbooi.
“And I don’t take it to my head. Because everyone has something to say, and there are different opinions. So, I just put my head straight up and do what I have to do.”
