Khanye Rips Into Chiefs After Worst PSL Finish

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye says it is an embarrassment and a disaster that his former side finished the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season outside the top 8.

Amakhosi lost 2-0 to already relegated Cape Town Spurs on the final day of the season in the mother city to finish in 10th position on the log with 36 points behind Golden Arrows and Polokwane City, who are just in their first season back in topflight.

This finish is Chiefs’ worst in history, and their ninth season without a trophy. Khanye says the players and the technical team need to shoulder responsibility for what happened against Spurs, adding that Amakhosi’s problems have long been coming since a long time ago.

“It’s unusual and it is not okay [to finish 10th],” said Khanye on iDiski TV.

“It’s an embarrassment. As I said a lot of players there don’t deserve to be there. I have respect for them, their personalities, but on the field we need to be honest because you cannot play against a relegated Cape Town Spurs and not even show up.

“So players and the coach have themselves to blame according to me” And this is a disaster and it’s the thing we have been saying for the past four years that something is broken there.

“But until something like this happened people wouldn’t realise. I’m not even joking, this is a serious embarrassment. This is historic and not in a good way. They dropped out of the top 8 and check the clubs that made the top 8.

“Some people may say we think we know better but this has never happened. I mean it means that Polokwane City was better than Chiefs and they just got promoted. Look at the coach on the bench, no profile nothing.

“The problems didn’t start today, the problems started long ago and today it was rubber stamped by losing to a relegated Cape Town Spurs 2-0.”
