Al Ahly president Mahmoud El-Khatib has come out and made a shock statement about Pitso Mosimane, admitting there was a campaign against the South African coach.
The Al Ahly supremo held an hour-long press conference, during which he discussed various topics, explaining the club’s recent decision to boycott the domestic cups until their demands to the Egyptian Football Association are met.
Khatib had been quiet on Mosimane’s departure but touched on it during his press conference, praising ‘Jingles’ for his achievements at the club.
“By numbers and achievements, Mosimane made history in this club that nobody can deny,” he said, as per Kingfut.
However, the surprise statement was that Khatib also admitted there was a campaign against the South African coach, with club legends and some comments even from within the club constantly criticising Mosimane.
“Who was leading the campaign that was directed against him,” Khatib asked.
The Al Ahly president was a known fan of Mosimane and his comments could be seen as expressing his stance once more.
It is understood that El-Khatib didn’t want to lose Mosimane, due to his vast experience on the African continent and his title credentials.
Mosimane won two CAF Champions League titles, two CAF Super Cups and one Egyptian Cup during his time in Cairo, and also picked up two bronze medals at the FIFA Club World Cup.
