AmaZulu Shock Chiefs At FNB

AmaZulu have knocked Kaizer Chiefs out of the Carling Knockout Cup, with Amakhosi missing out on another chance to end their eight-year trophy drought.

AmaZulu had the first real chance of the game when Tshepang Moremi was through on goal after eight minutes but his lobbed effort was blocked by Itumeleng Khune.

It was pretty much all Chiefs for the rest of half, starting in the 16th minute, Tebogo Potsane found himself free on the goalkeeper but rushed his effort and his header was easily saved by Veli Mothwa.

Six minutes later, Keagan Dolly was played free in the box but his shot with his weaker foot missed the target.

Ranga Chivaviro saw a powerful shot tipped over the bar by Mothwa after 24 minutes.

Chivaviro had another great chance just before the break but his header sailed over the bar.

The second half didn’t have as much action as the first, with AmaZulu focussing a lot more on tightening things up at the back.

When it looked like both side’s were already preparing for extra-time Taariq Fielies became the unlikely hero after scoring his first goal since joining Usuthu.

The result sees AmaZulu to book their spot in the quarter-finals, while Chiefs’ long wait to end their trophy drought continues on.
