There will be a first-time winner of the Ballon d’Or after current holder and eight-time winner, Lionel Messi, missed out on the nominees for the 2024 Ballon d’Or.
After their respective successes, it’s no surprise to see Real Madrid and Spain players dominating the nominees list, with the winners to be announced on 28 October at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.
Brazil superstar Vinicius Jr looks set to be a strong contender for the coveted prize but faces stiff competition from his teammate and England international Jude Bellingham, and Manchester City duo Rodri and goal machine Erling Haaland.
For the first time since 2003, neither eight-time winner Messi, nor his longstanding rival Cristiano Ronaldo, who has won five Golden Balls, were among the nominees.
