Polokwane municipality sport and recreation manager Mantlako Sebaka has revealed that Kaizer Chiefs recorded the highest numbers of attendance at the Peter Mokaba Stadium this recently-concluded season.
The 2010 FIFA World Cup venue had Amakhosi, SuperSport United, Polokwane City and Sekhukhune United as home teams last season, while Magesi FC used the old Peter Mokaba Stadium, also under the municipality as their home ground.

Sebaka says they hosted 43 matches in total last season with an average attendance of 2,616 spectators, with most of those numbers being of games involving Chiefs.
Last term, Chiefs used the FNB Stadium as their primary home, and Moses Mabhida in KwaZulu-Natal and Peter Mokaba as alternative home grounds. They collected seven points in Polokwane as the home side this past season, recording a 1-0 win over Richards Bay in December 2023, 2-1 win against SuperSport in April 2024 and a 2-2 draw with TS Galaxy in May 2024.
Sebaka says the highest attendance was the game between Babina Noko and Amakhosi.
“It was Kaizer Chiefs vs Sekhukhune United football club match and I think we were sitting at 22,000 and followed by Sekhukhune vs Pirates which was around 18,000 to 19,000” Sebaka told iDiski Times.
“And Sundowns vs Sekhukhune was also another big match that we had followed by Kaizer Chiefs vs SuperSport, though that one was less.
“The lowest that I think we had was a Sekhukhune match when they were playing in the Confederation Cup. We had close to 450 people there. I just forget the name of the team they were playing.”
The stadium administrator added that they spoke to the municipal council to allow them to enter into a three-year agreement with the said teams to avoid having to negotiate every season, however the contract is valid provided the teams do not get relegated in their respective leagues.
With Magesi having gained promotion to the DStv Premiership and looking for a home, Sebaka says they have not had any substantial talks with Dikwena tša Meetse, however adds that the municipality has been working on their other facilities like Seshego Stadium as an option for the teams.
“We are busy working on getting Seshego stadium to be at the level where PSL requires it and I’m working very hard to get that one going.
“It’s coming alright and I won’t mention what the PSL asked for but we are busy addressing all those issues of the quality of the facility that the PSL is looking for. We are working very hard and around the clock and for that matter with the guidance of my political principals then we can then talk to Magesi.”
According to Sebaka, the numbers could have been better and they will address issues they saw impacted stadium attendance, while also priding themselves in the safety of their facilities throughout the season.
