Chippa Receive FIFA Transfer Ban

Chippa United have seemingly become the latest South African club to receive a transfer ban from FIFA after failing to pay their former player Augustine Kwem.

Kwem’s agent, Johhny Ogbah confirmed to Thabiso Mosia from SAFM that Chippa have been banned from signing and registering players.

The 24-year-old striker, who joined TS Galaxy from the Chilli Boys ahead of the season, took Chippa to FIFA after they failed to pay an outstanding R200 000 of his signing-on fee.

“A few days ago we received an email from FIFA after informing them that we have not received the rest of the payment following the judgment. FIFA then responded alerting SAFA that Chippa have been handed a ban with immediate effect,” Ogbah stated as per Mosia.

“The money was part of Kwem’s signing on fee for the last season that he was with the club before he moved to TS Galaxy. We took them to FIFA after they didn’t pay and FIFA awarded a decision in favour of our client. Simon agreed to pay in three instalments but has only made two.

“The due date for the third instalment passed a long time ago. But the player loves the club and had a good relationship with management and waited but the money didn’t come. In fact the first and second payments also came late. So the player now instructed me to approach FIFA.

“I spoke to Simon (Chippa) again before going back to FIFA and he promised to pay the money on a certain date but no money has come. So we thought if we go to FIFA they will pay. Right now the ban says they can’t sign any players in the next transfer window.

“We see this all the time in football. But the player doesn’t want the club to suffer and neither do I, so they just need to pay. If they make the payment now, then we will inform FIFA and the ban will be lifted immediately.”

Meanwhile, Katlego Modiba, the producer of Mosia’s SAFM show, released the letter from FIFA, which states that Chippa “have been banned from registering new players”:
