Hunt Makes CAFCL Final Prediction

Stellenbosch FC head coach Gavin Hunt has predicted Mamelodi Sundowns to win this season’s CAF Champions League crown.

Stellenbosch put a stop to Sundowns’ winning streak on Wednesday, holding them to a 1-1 draw following a late goal from on-loan striker, Tshegofatso Mabasa.

Sundowns are competing for two major trophies: the Betway Premiership, where they are currently sitting in second place, and the CAFCL, where they are in the final.

After losing to the Egyptian side Pyramids last season in the final, Hunt believes that this is their year to win the trophy after a 10-year wait. They will face the Moroccan side ASFAR in the final.

“Have you seen their squad? I can’t comment on the opposition. They’re a fantastic club; they won the league now eight years in a row, and were in the Champions League final,” Hunt told the media.

“They’ve put their money where their mouth is, going out and acquiring big players, which we all can’t get, and you have to give them credit. The best clubs in the world play more games.

“So, I can’t comment on how things are done; it’s got nothing to do with me. But they’ve got a very good squad of players, and they should win the league. I’m sure they will do well; I’m sure they will win the Champions League this year.”
