Kekana Makes Strong Mbule Claim

Former Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana has urged Sipho Mbule to focus on delivering on the pitch and not so much off the pitch, if he is to realise his full potential as a footballer.

The comments come as reports about issues keeping him off the pitch at Sekhukhune United where he is a loanee are gaining momentum.

Mbule was loaned out from Mamelodi Sundowns in September 2024 and has played 15 league matches with two goals to his name – his fine performances even made Hugo Broos take note and include him in his preliminary Bafana Bafana squad in October.

But new reports by the SABC claim that the midfielder is facing misconduct issues at Babina Noko and the national broadcaster also claim that the 27-year-old will return to his mother club at the end of the campaign.

Kekana warned Mbule that he needs to focus on his game because time is also not on his side, and he should use it wisely on the pitch.

“We have spoken about Sipho Mbule before and it will pain me if this boy doesn’t realise his full potential in football because we all know what he is capable of doing,” said Kekana on SABC’s Soccer Zone.

“I was just praising him last week saying this boy is playing some top class football and needed consistency. However it is the outside world that is letting him down and time is no longer on his side.

“You look at him, he is approaching 30 and when you reach 30, we are going to start looking at you funny and you are going to get to a stage where you need the game, and it doesn’t need you. Football is crucial like that, really when you need it that’s when it doesn’t need you.

“Now is when he should be doing so much in the game because time in football doesn’t last too long.”
